Reddit is testing its new AI-powered search tool, “Reddit Answers,” with a select group of users in the United States. Designed to improve search functionality, the feature creates AI-generated summaries from Reddit discussions and links to related content, helping users discover information more efficiently.
Currently available only in English and limited to U.S. users, the tool aims to provide answers, recommendations, and human perspectives directly from real conversations within Reddit’s communities.
How Reddit Answers Transforms Search
The new search tool allows users to ask questions and receive concise summaries of discussions across various subreddits. Alongside the summaries, Reddit Answers links to related posts and communities, enabling users to dive deeper into full conversations for additional context.
Reddit explains:
“In line with our mission to empower communities and provide human perspectives to everyone, Reddit Answers offers a new way to get information, recommendations, discussions, and hot takes people are looking for – from real conversations across Reddit.”
Why It Matters
Reddit’s search functionality has long been a pain point, with many users relying on Google to find Reddit content by including “Reddit” in their search queries. The AI-powered Reddit Answers feature aims to fix this issue by offering smarter, faster, and more relevant results directly within the platform. By doing so, Reddit hopes to reduce user reliance on external search engines and keep audiences more engaged on its site.
Reddit adds:
“AI-powered search is part of our longer-term vision to improve the search experience – making it faster, smarter, and more relevant.”
Availability & Expansion
For now, Reddit Answers is being tested with a small group of U.S. users and is limited to the English language. Reddit plans to roll out the feature to more users, support additional languages, and expand to other regions in the near future.
